What to do in the garden now
* Continue to check for powdery mildew on phlox, zinnia, bee balm, verbena, rose, squash, cucumber and pumpkin to name a few. Spray with Serenade, an organic solution.
* Stake floppy annuals and perennials. Keeping them upright will help prevent them from smothering neighboring plants.
* Fertilize your landscape regularly with an organic fertilizer.
* Remove spent flowers from roses.
* Weed flower beds before weeds set seed. There will be fewer weeds next year.
* Collect plant material to use in dried arrangements. Harvest flowers when color first appears.
* Plant bean, spinach, lettuce and radish for fall crops.
* Let tomatoes ripen on the vine.
* Pull out spent and tired annuals and add them to your compost bin.
* Don't forget your house plants. Remember to water, fertilize, and remove spent flowers.
* Re-pot overgrown houseplants before you move them inside.
* Replenish mulch as needed. Some mulches break down faster than others.
